Jackie is a senior in CALS studying Environmental and Sustainability Sciences with a concentration in Watershed Hydrology and Management and a minor in Climate Change. Her Honors Thesis research focuses on the effects of land-use management on nutrient loading through groundwater in Oneida Lake, New York. As an intern at the Cornell Biological Field Station the past two summers, Jackie has worked extensively with colonial waterbird management, with a focus on terns and gulls, and has conducted several outreach and extension projects about the Oneida Lake ecosystem. Being from Maryland and living on the Severn River, a key tributary in the Chesapeake Bay watershed, Jackie grew up loving aquatic ecosystems and plans to pursue a career that allows her to continue to research, understand, and protect the ecosystems she loves, especially as they endure the duress of climate change. On campus, Jackie is a Student Supervisor for Cornell Dining and a Co-Captain of the Lady Bears Club Volleyball team. At COP 23 in Bonn, Jackie hopes to learn more about the role primary scientific research plays in policy formation processes.
