Tarannum Sahar is a senior from Dhaka, Bangladesh majoring in Mechanical Engineering and Economics with a minor in Sustainable Energy Systems. As part of the Renewable Energy Design team in Engineers for a Sustainable World and through her research experience in DeFrees Hydraulics lab, she worked on vertical-axis Savonius wind turbines and gained an understanding of energy efficiency in wind farms. She is also involved with Cornell Welcomes Refugees through which she fostered discussions about climate refugees.

With the energy industry being a major contributor to the global climate change, and 1.2 billion people still lacking proper access to electricity, Tarannum is interested in the transformation of the global energy system to mitigate climate change and meet sustainable development goals. At COP24, she wants to learn more about the efforts and initiatives of dominant decision makers to address this issue as well as that of climate refugees.
